Aeon Timeline – Review

What Is This?

Aeon Timeline is a writing tool that helps users manage complex storylines by tracking characters, settings etc over time periods.

Why Would I Need It?

If you are writing a complex piece of fiction or a series of books, then a tool like Aeon Timeline can help you build a working timeline to keep track of your characters as the story develops.

Using Aeon Timeline.

I have started using this program more in the past few months for a variety of reasons. It can help separate the narrative order (as things happen in the book) from the chronological order (when they actually happen). I particularly like the multiple view types which allow me to follow a characters relationship grids etc. It helps to see and avoid continuity errors and manage complex subplots. You can use a free trial period to see if this works for you. I’m looking at upgrading to the Aeon Timeline 3 as it has more options to sync with the word processing program that I use.

Alternatives I’ve Used

I have also tried Plottr which is similar and I find is good for getting those initial ideas, plots etc written and saved. However, I find Aeon Timeline works better for tracking the timelines of the characters, settings and plots, this is just a personal preference and I would always advise that you try things out for yourself before committing to buying any software.

Future Findings

I will update here any future findings on how I use Aeon Timeline and how it is working for me.
