What Is This?
ProWritingAid is a writing assistant designed to grammar check, be a style editor and a mentor. It’s powered by AI and focuses on strengthening style and structure of your writing.
Why Would I Need It?
Sometimes I need another pair of ‘eyes’ to check grammar and sentence structure. This is particularly helpful when I’m working out of office hours and cannot text someone to ask their opinion.
Using ProWritingAid.
I’ve been using ProWritingAid for over a year and I find that the program works well for my way of working. It flags grammar errors, overused words and cliches. I like the realtime suggestions and rephrases, although I don’t always follow what has been suggested. I particularly like the data security where PRoWritingAid states it never trains its AI models with the users work, ensuring my writing remains secure. You can try this program for free to see if you like how it works with your style of writing, however you are restricted to 500 words editing at a time. The are a variety of packages if you want to have a premium account and also look for deals such as Easter, Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals to reduce the costs.
Alternatives I’ve Used
I have also tried Grammarly and AutoCrit. These programs are similar and if you are starting out I would recommend you try a few different programs to see what fits your writing. As a fiction writer I prefer the educational feedback on why a change is suggested rather than just correcting any errors.
Future Findings
I’m happy with ProWritingAid at the moment and have renewed my annual membership, however I am aware that technology and attitudes towards AI can change. I’m happy to try new programs and will also add any further findings to my ProWritingAid experience here if anything changes.
