What Is This?
Plottr is a story planning and visual outlining software for authors, screenwriters and other creatives.
Why Would I Need It?
It helps with organising and structuring novels and other types of writing. Making and managing hotlines and story arcs much easier.
Using Plottr.
I’ve used Plottr for a while and like its drag and drop interface which allows me to create visual timelines and I like the way I can map out plots and subplots. It also has plotting templates based on proven structures such as the Hero’s Journey. I find it particularly good for world building notes and character details. A new feature that I have started using is the ‘Family Tree’ which is really helpful keeping track of peoples complex relationships as my book series expands. What I really like about Plottr is that it has no AI features, which is great if you are wanting to switch off from AI and just plot for yourself. It also has an export feature so that you can export to Scrivener or Word. Plottr currently offers a 30 day free trial and as always check to see if there are any other deals such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
Alternatives I’ve Used
I’ve tried other tools such as Aeon Timeline and Dabble, however, I find for basic plotting and having a visual record I like the features that Plottr provides.
Future Findings
As I use Plottr more in the future or other novels and some of the short stories and flash fiction, I’m sure I’ll find more features to use. As always I’ll update here when I discover them.
